Utility Easements

What does having a utility easement on your property mean for you?

A utility easement is a strip of private land used to construct, operate and maintain utility infrastructure. To construct the water supply and drinking water pipelines, the project team acquired utility easements across private property.

To protect the underground infrastructure, the easements have certain use restrictions. For example, the easements must remain clear of permanent structures, and no future easements will be able to overlap them. Because of use restrictions like these, property owners received monetary compensation for easements on their properties.
